How many lessons and how much should it cost to get a beginner golfer started (who is athletic)?
New golfer here.
I’ve heard it’s a good idea to get lessons before bad habits are developed.
How many lessons should I take? And what kind of price am I looking at for lessons?
First factor…How good do you want to be. This is the first and last of your question. If you want to be as good as you can possibly be then you may never quit taking lessons. If you’re just looking to get good enough to enjoy yourself and have fun with some friends then I would say about 6 lessons, 1 every 3 weeks so they all have time to get worked in with practice. With that and how ever much you can practice will determine your eventual skill level. Please let me stress that playing by ALL the rules of the United States Golf Association and joining an Mens Association to get your GHIN card (Golf Handicap Information Network) will let you know just how good you really are as opposed to those that move their ball to a more preferable location when they hit a less than desireable shot. Those people will never know just how good they are…or aren’t…..while you know your score is real and complete.
The pros still take lessons. How much do you think their coaches charge? If You just wanna’ be a duffer like me..go to a driving range and ask the guy that sells you the bucket of golf balls if he can help your game. He’s usually someone that tried and gave up or knows someone that is better. I’ve seen it time after time. If you are serious and want a certified instructor……you better have some “deep” pockets.
There’s no secret recipe, but starting out you want to go through an extended period of lessons and practice. Maybe a 6 month program for starters. Something like 10-15 lessons. A 6 month period is probably long enough for you to learn and develop solid fundamentals that you’ll have the rest of your life.
I went through a similar program at GolfTec and it cost me about $700. Not cheap, but well worth it. I have a lot more fun playing golf now.
There are pros and cons to GolfTec lessons. They worked for me and I liked the fact that I could go through the program during the offseason. Do some research and find something you like and go for it.
I’d say $500 give or take would get you a nice lesson package.
If you are athletic you are off to a good start, you can probably use some of you other talents in golf. Lessons are a great idea you could start at a local course and take lessons or I was fortunate to take the basics at a junior college. This was very affordable compared to a one on one session.
