Definitely not cedar. Pine shavings and any other wood would do.

I would say to stay away from pine and cedar and oak and any trees that have been sprayed w/ pesticides and any trees you cannot identify. The safest would be friut trees as the hammy can have a snack out of it and a little cage accesory too. Just make sure they are PESTTICIDE free.

You should watch out for pine and cedar wood. I don't know why.
Fruit tree branches are fine for them to chew at and also willow.

Hope I helped!!

Hiya, well i have four gerbils and im always making things for them to play on and i've always used untreated pine shelves ( value ones from homebase or b&q) There reasonably cheap and safe if they chew. Also some fruit branches are safe E.g pear apple etc..

Stay away from cedar AND pine. They both can cause severe respiratory problems.

Use woods from fruit trees such as apple, pear & plum as these are probably the safest. If unsure, many petshops stock a range of toys and wooden sticks designed especially for hamsters and other small rodents.
Hope this helps. Good luck & have fun buildling =)

make sure the wood is not treated first of all. I do think that cedar isn't good for them either. I think a safe wood would be oak.
